Payton Robertson: The Newest Big Name for LSU Shreveport Pilots

Published on

Payton Robertson has been named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) preseason All-American list. This comes after being named the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) player of the year in 2019. Robertson has been a huge impact for the LSU Shreveport Pilots, helping lead them to RRAC All-Conference Team recognition.

Robertson is a multi-position infielder that has shown impressive statistics throughout his time at LSUS. He comes into the 2021 season playing a total of 86 games for the Pilots with a .376 batting average. In those 86 games Robertson has scored 85 runs, 123 hits, 63 RBIs and 63 stolen bases. He is a strong offensive player with the potential to be an even bigger impact to his team this season.

Robertson is not only a great offensive player, but has the defensive ability to play all over the field. According to his coach, he is an all around solid player and “an unbelieved person and teammate”. Robertson’s athleticism, strong background in baseball and personal goal of playing baseball professionally makes him a perfect fit with the competitive and determined Shreveport Pilots.

With the MLB drafting dozens of players from the NAIA each year, Robertson’s goal of playing baseball professionally has the chance of being met. Throughout his years with LSUS, Robertson has been a key player in their success showing impressive numbers every year. Although the MLB recently cut 43 of their minor league teams, making the MLB draft much more competitive, Robertson still has a strong chance of being drafted. If his successful statistics can continue and improve during the 2021 season, Robertson will be a strong contender for the MLB draft.

With their season beginning on February 4th, the LSU Shreveport Pilots are ranked number 6 nationally and are picked to win the RRAC.
