The Empire League Returns for 2021

January 20, 2021 – Plattsburgh, NY –

During the 2020 season, the Empire League had to cancel its season due to the Covid-19 outbreak that took the world by storm. Although they didn’t have their regular season, they did have a Fall Exposure Developmental season, so the players from around the league can stay ready for the next season that approaches. Now the Empire League looks to come back in full swing. The league is looking to start a 50 game season with 6 teams. However, they may have to go to 4 teams if in the event there has to be a modified season.

This is a smart move by the Empire League. They’re looking to start a full season again while abiding by the Covid-19 protocols. Even with the event that there could be only 4 teams during this upcoming season, I still believe all the teams are getting ready to grab the bats and lace up the cleats for this upcoming year. As long as there isn’t a Covid outbreak of any kind during this whole process, the season should be completed. A big challenge that the Empire League will have to face is the risk with traveling. Now this feat would be easier for teams such as the Plattsburgh Thunderbirds, Saranac Lake Surge and, the Tupper Lake Riverpigs, since they are all based in New York and don’t have to travel far to play each other. However, for the rest of the teams in the Empire League, traveling such far distances to each game could be a struggle. They would have to be in quarantine for the majority of their trips and especially for the Puerto Rico Islanders, they may have to find a home stadium to play in temporarily in the US. However, if the teams can stay safe and follow Covid-19 protocols there will hopefully be a full 50 game Empire League season.
