February 2, 2021 – Bradenton, FL –
The Simulation Football League kicked off its 16th Season this past week and followed up with an eventful second week of games. Many teams were looking for their first win of the season, with the other half looking to start the season with a perfect record. Here is a rundown of each game from Week 2.
Los Angeles Lycans 30, Houston Hyenas 13
After a crucial Week 1 victory against the San Diego Mavericks, the Lycans’ first road game resulted in six forced turnovers in a blowout victory over Houston. It has not been ideal for the Hyenas, as their defense has allowed 57 points through two games, while the offense has only managed to score 26. They will look for their first win next weekend.
Carolina Skyhawks 30, Lone Star Glory 17
The score may say differently, but this was a battle until the final whistle. Carolina’s offense rebounded after scoring only 10 points against Las Vegas in Week 1 to give the Glory their first loss of the season. Lone Star experienced the opposite effect, as they looked to continue their high-scoring offense from Week 1, but failed to do so.
Florida Storm 17, Jacksonville Kings 10
It was a Battle of the Sunshine State with the Florida Storm picking up their first win of the season in a defensive battle with Jacksonville. After allowing 45 points to Lone Star in Week 1, the Storm managed to shut down Jacksonville in their first home game of the season. As for Jacksonville, they will look to get back in the win column next weekend.
St. Louis Gladiators 23, Queen City Corsairs 20
The defense was the key for the Gladiators’ second win of the season, as they went to 2-0 on the young season with a mere victory over Queen City. St. Louis is advertising that their defense may be one of the best out there, but only time will tell. Queen City will look to rebound at home next week.
Arizona Scorpions 33, Charleston Predators 30
What may be considered to be the game of the week, Arizona scraped by Charleston with a three-point victory for their first win of the season. Charleston managed to keep the game close, but could not come away with a victory at home. Arizona managed to play the defending champions tough in Week 1, but could not walk away with a win. They did just that in Charleston.
Portland Fleet 30, Tulsa Desperados 20
In the final matchup on Saturday, Tulsa’s defense continued to be a weakness, allowing 74 points through their first two games of the season and falling to 0-2 on the season. Although it is still early in the season, Tulsa will have to look for other solutions to figure out their defensive problems. After a devastating loss to St. Louis in Week 1, Portland managed to rebound for their first win of the season and will hope to go above .500 next week.
Mexico City Aztecs 21, London
Knights 9
Phoenix Jones ran for 118 yards and three touchdowns, leading Mexico City to their first win of the season. The Aztecs managed to shut down Angus MacLaine’s offense, holding them to only three field goals. As for the Knights, they will look to recuperate and come out with a win next weekend.
Fort Worth Toros 9, Louisiana Revolution 7
A game-sealing interception for Fort Worth in the dying seconds of the 4th quarter gave Fort Worth their first win of the season, even though they only scored three field goals. Louisiana allowed 45 points in Week 1 and only nine in Week 2, but have yet to win a game. Their luck may not be getting any easier as they have to face a tough St. Louis team at home next week.
Baltimore Vultures 30, Sioux Falls Sparrows 3
In the rematch of the Season 15 Championship game, Sioux Falls proved to be no match for the defending champions in a blowout loss in snowy Baltimore. The Sparrows fall to 0-2 on the season and may now enter desperation mode to get back to their form from last season. Baltimore continued their dominance and seem to be the team to beat from the east.
Vancouver Legion 48, Atlanta Swarm 23
Atlanta came out strong this past week but failed to provide that same offense against Vancouver. The Legion ran for nearly 150 yards, dominating on the offensive side of the ball. Their offense has a combined 93 points over the past two weeks, making them the highest-scoring offense in the league.
Denver Nightwings 30, D.C. Dragons 0
In the first shutout of Season 16, the Nightwings dominated one of the youngest teams in the SFL in their second victory of the season. The offense is clicking for Denver and their defense has only allowed one score so far. They will be the team to beat in the west, if not the entire league.
Las Vegas Fury 24. San Diego Mavericks 6
The weather may have been sunny in San Diego, but things were not looking too bright for the Mavericks. Las Vegas picks up their second win of the season and is showing signs of having one of the better defenses in the league. The Mavericks fall to 0-2 on the season and will look to get their first win at home next week.
