July 2, 2021 – Pikeville, KY-
Corey Fipps departed Kentucky Christian University as the all-time winningest coach in program history and as facilitator of three of the Knights’ top seasons. KCU boasted a top-ten rushing offense in 2020 with Fipps at the helm. During his 2020 campaign at KCU coach Fipps led the Knights to a 6-2 record. Coach Fipps is now joining the Pikeville Bears Football team for the 2021 season.
Pikeville currently plays in the Mid-South Conference in the Bluegrass division. Pikeville’s football program believes Corey Fipps is the guy for the job because of his history as an athletic director and head coach at Kentucky Christian University. The bears believe his experience working with collegiate athletes will help them succeed. Fipps also commits to helping his athletes succeed on and off the field.
While coaching at Kentucky Christian Fipps compiled a 12-29 record and averaged 3 wins a season. 2020 was the only year Coach Fipps had a winning record at Kentucky Christian University.
Coach Fipps is replacing a well-respected coach in Allan Holland Jr. During Hollands tenure the University of Pikeville football program compiled a 23-13 record in their conference. Holland has produced 43 all conference players and 44 academic all-conference players.
Pikeville’s football program brings in a coach in Fipps that they believe can improve their record and history of being a .500 program. The program had a 3-4 record in 2020 and has only averaged 5 wins a season over the past 5 years. In the last 5 years, Pikeville has a record 25 wins and 25 losses with a convincing win over Fipps Knights 49 to 38 in 2019.
Pikeville’s football program averaged 24 points per game in 2020. Kentucky Christian averaged 32.0 points per game in 2020. While coaching Faulkner University in 2011, Fipps offense ranked first in the country with 520 yards total offense per game. Hiring Fipps can help Pikeville score more points which could lead to more wins.
Bringing in Fipps is indeed a gamble for Pikeville. He has one winning season under his belt in the past four years. Additionally, Fipps has only produced one notable player in Devon McCoy in 2019. McCoy plays wide receiver at Kentucky Christian and was a first team AP All-American in 2019. Coach Fipps will have to connect with his new players, build strong relationships and win early so people can forget a respected coach in Allan Holland Jr. By doing this Fipps can prove his only winning season in 2020 season wasn’t a fluke.
