South Shore Monarchs: Tough Road Ahead

July 23, 2021 – Boston, MA –

The South Shore Monarchs and their coach Joseph Platt have a lot to do this offseason after finishing dead last in the Eastern Conference and the worst record overall in the whole TBL with a putrid 1-21 record. The first thing the Monarchs will need to address this offseason is try to get a dynamic scorer who the team can go down the stretch in close games. They are the only team in the TBL who doesn’t have a single player averaging over 15 points per game with Davante Adams averaging 14.4, which is just not going to get it done at any major level of competition. Drew Edwards was one of the players they had, of the many that switched over to the Monarchs from the Houston Push during the season who averaged over 20 a game but he barely played as a Monarch this past season so once he’s incorporated more within the team that will give them a guy who can provide some of the offensive production they desperately need. Others such as Taaj Ridley who averaged over 23 a game, but barely played with the team will be another guy who can provide the offense they need to win games.

Secondly, the Monarchs need a dynamic playmaker or two who can really break down the defense and create shots for others. Kachi Nzerem is their highest assist man, averaging just 1.4 assists a game and that won’t win you games at any level of basketball. The Monarchs lack of elite scorers and playmakers hinders their ceiling offensively and makes it hard to run a fluid offense. Thirdly, the Monarchs must cut down on turnovers, this is what I mean when I say they need a dynamic playmaker or two who can not only make plays for others but also take care of the ball because to win games your possessions are imperative. One game against the Syracuse Stallions earlier this year they had an atrocious 28 turnovers! That’s not going to win you games no matter what level you’re playing at. They must address that and lastly, their defense lacks effort and they allow teams to just pummel them defensively. One play against the Stallions the Monarchs turned the ball over and only one player actually hustled back on defense, which just shows the lack of desire to want to win.

The Monarchs have a lot to address this offseason but if they want to win they must get more dynamic scorers, playmakers, and correct their silly mistakes defensively if they want any chance of making the playoffs next season.
