Georgetown College Sets the Stage for 2024 Football Season with Official Schedule Release

July 7, 2024 – Georgetown, Kentucky –

Georgetown College has unveiled its 2024 football schedule, promising a season brimming with high-stakes matchups and electrifying competition. Coming off a stellar 2023 season that saw the Tigers clinch another outright Mid-South Conference Championship and advance to the NAIA FCS Semifinals, the stage is set for a challenging and exhilarating journey.

The Tigers are set to roar into action with three consecutive road games, starting with a formidable test against Montana Tech on August 29th. The Orediggers, who wrapped up their 2023 season with a 7-4 record and a first-round appearance in the NAIA Playoffs, will be led by quarterback Blake Thelen. Thelen, who threw for 2,905 yards last season, is expected to provide a stiff challenge for Georgetown’s defense.

Georgetown’s early road stint continues on September 7th at the University of Pikeville. Guided by Head Coach Corey Fipps, Pikeville represents a significant early-season hurdle. Georgetown dominated Pikeville 35-14 in their 2023 encounter, and this matchup will test the Tigers’ ability to replicate that success on the road.

On September 14th, the Tigers head south to Huntsville, Alabama, to clash with Alabama A&M, a formidable NCAA FCS opponent. The Bulldogs, who ended their 2023 season with a 5-6 record, will rely heavily on running back Donovan Eaglin, who amassed 765 rushing yards last year. Georgetown’s defense will need to be at its best to contain A&M’s potent offensive threats.

Returning to Toyota Stadium on September 28th, Georgetown will host Reinhardt in their home opener. This game is poised to be a thriller, offering Georgetown a shot at redemption after Reinhardt edged them out 28-24 last season in Georgia. Known for their high-octane offense, Reinhardt will be looking to spoil Georgetown’s homecoming with another upset.

After a bye week, Georgetown’s Homecoming on October 12th will feature a showdown against Faulkner University. Georgetown cruised to a 27-3 victory at Faulkner last season. This matchup will serve as a critical test as the Tigers begin their defense of the Mid-South Conference title.

October brings a series of pivotal games:

  • October 19th: The Tigers travel to Lebanon, Tennessee, to face the Cumberland Phoenix. Georgetown dominated Cumberland last year with a decisive 42-14 victory, and this game will test the Tigers’ ability to maintain their dominance.
  • October 26th: Georgetown hosts Bethel University, a team they defeated 52-24 in 2023. Bethel’s balanced squad will provide a robust challenge, especially on the Tigers’ home turf.
  • November 2nd: Georgetown takes on the University of the Cumberlands at home. Known for their strong running game and formidable offensive line, the Patriots will be looking to upset Georgetown’s conference ambitions.

One of the most anticipated games is the rivalry clash with Campbellsville University on November 9th. This fierce showdown in Campbellsville, Kentucky, will see Head Coach Perry Thomas’s team eager to reclaim their dominance in this storied rivalry. The intensity and passion of this game promise a spectacle for fans and players alike.

Georgetown will wrap up their regular season with a challenging road game against Lindsey Wilson on November 16th. The Tigers secured a hard-fought 10-0 victory over Lindsey Wilson last season, and this final matchup will be crucial for Georgetown as they gear up for the postseason.

Head Coach Chris Oliver is acutely aware of the season’s challenges. “I don’t believe it’s an exaggeration to say that this is likely the most challenging schedule in the country at our level,” Oliver said. “We play three 2023 NAIA playoff participants including a big challenge on the road in week 1 against Montana Tech. We play the top two returning teams in our crossover games with the Appalachian Athletic Conference, and we’ve recently added a non-conference game at FCS level Alabama A&M. To top it off, we play the rest of the Mid-South Conference which is always a meat grinder. We’ll certainly be tested each and every week.”

Kickoff times and ticketing information will be announced at a later date.

Home Games:

  • Reinhardt, 9/28
  • Faulkner, 10/12 (Homecoming)
  • Bethel, 10/26
  • Cumberlands, 11/2

Away Games:

  • Montana Tech, 8/29
  • Pikeville, 9/7
  • Alabama A&M, 9/14
  • Cumberland, 10/19
  • Campbellsville, 11/9
  • Lindsey Wilson, 11/16
