The Bulldogs, now 3-1 on the season, showed their depth and versatility, with contributions from both sides of the ball that overwhelmed their opponent from start to finish.

Junior running back Kannon Katzer made the most of his limited opportunities, rushing for 38 yards and scoring two touchdowns on just two carries. Redshirt freshman Leeshaun Mumpfield added to the ground dominance, recording 37 yards and two touchdowns on four carries. Sophomore Zak Ahern also contributed 35 yards rushing and a touchdown on four attempts. Ferris State’s quarterback, junior Trinidad Chambliss, was efficient through the air, completing 14 of 24 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 25 yards and another score on two carries. The Bulldogs’ offensive versatility was on full display when junior slot receiver Brady Rose completed a 50-yard touchdown pass to senior Emari O’Brien. O’Brien led the receiving corps with two receptions for a team-high 93 yards.

Other key contributors in the passing game included senior wideout James Gilbert, who hauled in two catches for 46 yards, and sophomore slot receiver Taariik Brett, who added two receptions for 24 yards. On special teams, junior kicker Mitchell Middleton was perfect, going 12-for-12 on extra points, setting a new school record for most PATs in a game. Junior Levi Tuinstra was also flawless, adding two extra points to complete the scoring.

Ferris State’s defense was equally dominant, holding American International to a staggering -18 rushing yards on 29 attempts and only 110 yards of total offense. Redshirt freshman linebacker Jerek Fields led the way with seven total tackles, while junior defensive lineman Jvonne Ruffin added six stops. Senior Ralph Carter contributed five tackles, including one sack, and senior defensive back Payton Hughes notched an interception.

Ferris State has now positioned itself as one of the top teams to watch in Division II football as they chase another deep postseason run.
