Johnson University had a difficult 2019-20 season, finishing with a 4-9 record and a win percentage of .250. The season after. Coach Doug Johnson resigned before the season even began and the athletic director and assistant coach looked to coach the team until the end of the season, which added to their troubles. This team appeared to be heading for catastrophe, then everything changed.
The school’s recruiting class was a huge success this year. The key positions that the school need were defenders, and they received a large number of defenders. Gustavo Risso and Lucas Jofre are two names who stick out. Gustavo is a large, strong defender with international experience, whereas Lucas Jofre possesses pace and attacking ability.
Now, these two aren’t the faces of the recruiting class; there are a lot of huge names in the recruiting class, and most of the players have international experience, according to the class. That is, many of these guys know how to work hard and play hard.
The coach hired by Johnson University Florida is the major reason why so many high-level players have joined this university. Sam Koleduk is the new coach, and in a nutshell, he is a genius. Prior to becoming head coach, he was the head coach at Sunlake high school’s varsity team. He spent nine seasons with the team and had a 210-24-17 overall record. He leads the team to 4 FHSAA State Final Four appearances, 3 FHSAA State Elite-8 appearances along winning 6 straight District Championships and was named SAC Coach of the Year, St Pete Times Coach of the Year, Tampa Tribune Coach of the Year and All-North Suncoast Coach of the Year.
He has experience coaching in College, He coached Cincinnati Christian University, had a 42-5 record, This included 2 NCCAA National Championship Final Four appearances and a National Championship Runner-Up finish. The school could have found a better head coach than this man
It will take time for this team to achieve the sorts of records that coach Sam Koleduk has achieved with other schools, but it will not be as disappointing as the previous season.
