The Wright Man for Union College

September 14, 2021 – Barbourville, KY –

Running back Isaiah Wright’s life has been filled with trials and tribulations that have influenced who he is today. Isaiah Wright faced his first trial as a kid at home while living with his older brothers Camion and Eszmone Patrick. When Isaiah was young his mom would have long absences away from the household leaving Isaiah and his brothers to fend for themselves. Isaiah’s father was incarcerated shortly after he was born. Isaiah and his brothers were constantly on the move in different foster homes and struggling to live a normal life. Wright started playing football at an early age and always had a passion for the game. He began his college career at East Mississippi Community college and was featured on Netflix’s Last Chance U showcasing his athletic ability and running style. During his two years at EMCC he was one of the best athletes on a team that went 8-1 and 11-1. After his stint in community college, he attended the University of West Georgia a division 2 football program. Isaiah then went on to play for the Alcoa Alloys in a pay to play league. Despite his past legal issues, the team decided he could play and gave him a second chance.

Isaiah Wright is an athletic, multi-talented football player. He is versatile enough to play different positions on the field. During his career he has played running back, wide receiver, and returned kicks. Wright has made his way to Kentucky and currently plays for Union College in the NAIA. In the first game of the season, Wright rushed for 251 yards and 3 touchdowns. His performance was the second highest rushing yardage in a game in school history. With Isaiah’s help, Union College beat Campbellsville 33-18 and he earned player of the week for the Mid-South Conference. The Bulldogs are hoping to improve this year after going 1-6 in 2020. Wright’s rushing ability will boost an offense that was 47th in rushing offense, 35th in scoring offense, and 31st in total offense last season. Wright can also be used as a reliable weapon for new quarterback Walker Russell who threw for 46 yards in the Bulldogs victory over Campbellsville.

To this point, it has been a long and troubled journey for Isaiah Wright. He now has an opportunity to put his past behind him and plan for a better future. Wright could possibly transfer to an FBS or FCS school. There are a lot of teams at both the FBS and FCS level that could use his talents. After that, who knows, Wright could also take his talents to the NFL where many troubled players have been given a second chance.
