Teddy Allen Looking to Make Waves with SkyKings

February 19, 2023 – Wichita, KS – Teddy Allen, the former 6-foot-6 New Mexico State guard who won the WAC Player of the Year last season as a member of the Aggies after averaging 19.6 points per game and helping transform New Mexico’s program by leading them to their first NCAA Tournament win in 30 years with a 70-63 first-round upset victory over the No.5 seeded UConn Huskies, a game in which Allen exploded for 37 points, is looking to make a big impact as he has signed with the Wichita SkyKings of the TBL (The Basketball League). Throughout his time as an Aggie, Allen racked up quite an impressive resume: 2022 WAC Player of the Year, 2022 WAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, 2022 WAC Newcomer of the Year, 2022 All-WAC First Team, 2022 WAC All-Newcomer Team, and WAC Player of the Week (12/20/21 • 1/17/22 • 1/31/22 • 2/21/22). Allen was also awarded the Joe Kearney Award which is given to WAC’s best male athlete; for only the second time in the program’s history-following Jemerrio Jones who was the inaugural recipient of the award in 2018 after leading NM State to the 2018 NCAA Tournament. He shot an absurd 87.6% from the field that season. Unfortunately, despite Allen’s amazing career, he went undrafted after practicing with various professional teams. However, things are starting to look up for Allen with his recent signing with the SkyKings. After signing for the SkyKings, Allen expressed his excitement by stating: “I’m thankful to the SkyKings for this opportunity, excited for this stepping stone. And go Aggies!” The SkyKings coach, Sean Flynn, also expressed his exuberance for Allen when he stated: “He loves Wichita and he was so excited to be able to come back to WSU, He knows there was hype leading up to him playing and a letdown when he didn’t get to play for the Shockers. There were a lot of people in Wichita who took him under their wing and worked with him when he was there, and he respects that. When he reflected on his college career, he knows some of the best learning and some of the best growth he had was when he was at Wichita State. So, there’s definitely some unfinished business here for Teddy.” Allen has ties to Wichita that go back to 2018-19 when he was a redshirt freshman. Allen will look to really show professional teams, whether overseas, NBA, or in the G-League that he’s more than capable of contributing at those levels and helping a team win and someone who is a great teammate with high characteristics that you want on your ball club. Flynn continued showering Allen with praise: “When I got the nod to do this, I mentioned to our owner that Teddy Allen is the most talented player in the country right now out of college who is not in the NBA or G-League, I really wanted to go hard at Teddy and recruit him to come here and then be that spark to help him get a look at the next level. We want to be that buffer for him between New Mexico State and maybe Europe or the G-League or even the NBA because I think Teddy is that talented.” If Flynn’s words are correct, Allen should have a dominant season and prove to scouts his ability to score, that he’s a solid rebounder for his size, and continue to show improvement as a facilitator, which will definitely garner him more professional offers once the TBL season gets underway in March.
