Robinson II’s Road to Raleigh: A Firebirds Draft Day Gem

The Raleigh Firebirds have made a strategic move in the first round of The Basketball League Draft by selecting Glenn Robinson II from Clayton State University. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Robinson’s basketball journey began at Chamblee Charter High School, setting the stage for his future in the sport. Robinson’s college career is a story of resilience and growth. It kicked off at the University of West Georgia in the 2017-2018 season. Here, he demonstrated early promise, averaging 3.27 points and 2.04 rebounds per game across 26 games. This experience was vital in honing his early basketball skills and acumen.

After a stint at Coastal Alabama – North, Robinson transferred to Kennesaw State University for the 2020-2021 season. His time at Kennesaw State, though brief, was pivotal in his development, immersing him in a more competitive basketball environment and further refining his skills. The most transformative part of his college career occurred at Clayton State University. During the 2021-2022 season, he played in 19 games, showcasing his scoring ability with a season-high 11 points against Young Harris and impressing on the boards with six rebounds against Savannah State. Moreover, his ability to hit three-pointers, with 11 made during the season, highlighted his versatility and scoring range. These performances at Clayton State underscored his capability to significantly contribute to various aspects of the game.

Robinson’s playing style is marked by his versatility and adaptability. Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 194 pounds, he has the ideal physique for a small forward, combined with agility and speed. His proficiency in three-point shooting adds a valuable dimension to his game, making him a scoring threat from beyond the arc. Defensively, Robinson has shown the ability to guard multiple positions, a skill that is highly valued in modern basketball. His rebounding numbers, particularly at Clayton State, demonstrate his willingness to engage in the physical aspects of the game.

The Firebirds’ decision to draft Robinson reflects their strategy of bringing in adaptable and versatile players. Robinson’s journey through various universities has equipped him with a diverse set of experiences, preparing him for the professional level. As he steps into The Basketball League, Robinson II is set to begin a new chapter in his career, one that the Raleigh Firebirds and their fans will watch with great anticipation.
